Since my preparation had been anything but optimal, I was prepared to run my slowest race ever. And so I did, but only by 6:14 minutes and only 20 minutes slower than my personal best of 3:09:23 (Auckland, October 1994). This is quite an achievement especially because it was based on an average of 3 training runs per week, which would have totalled to no more than 50 to 70 km per week. This compares to 6 run (90 - 100 km) five years ago. Obviously I'm happy with the result of 3:29:32 hours and I'm considering to revisit my old goal of targeting these 3 hours!

It deserves mention that five or six of us ran personal best times in this event, which was started at 8.30 in the morning at a temperature of -1°C (30°F). Suzette (257) ran her very first Marathon.
